Like many before me, I went into “The Amazing Spider-Man” with thoughts of the skeptical nature, but having now seen 2 trailers, a multitude of images and read a heck of a lot of interviews, I can now say that I am not only looking forward to July 3rd, but counting down the days as they go. I found that what made me so enraged at the idea of simply rebooting the Spider-Man series was not because of a new director, new actors or even the story itself, but rather because the original Sam Raimi directed series was so well done. Easily some of the best films of the Superhero genre, it came not only as a surprise, but an injustice for Tobey Maguire’s portrayal of the web swinger himself to be written off without even the bat of an eye, less than a decade after the original trilogy.

Any doubts presented by the first trailer of the Marc Webb director film have not only been wiped clean from my memory, but replaced with a raw, interesting new take on the popular Marvel icon. Special effects are unsurprisingly stunning as are the set pieces, and although Andrew Garfield has got some pretty dang large shoes to fill, he’s already passing my test with flying colors.

As Josh Trank’s “Chronicle” nears its February 3rd release, so does the hype as the film’s advertising division seems to be pulling out all the stops with a multitude of clips and teasers, this latest one being the most exciting of them all. There is a lot of new footage to be seen in the above clip adding more so to the tension that begin to arise between the three friends. 

From what I’ve seen and heard, “Chronicle” has gained the reputation of being one very sneaky film that made its way onto almost everyone’s must-watch list, and for good reason in what is sure to be one of the better projects to come out of this early 2012 season. The Josh Trank directed film, stars Michael B. Jordan, Dane Deehan, Michael Kelly and Alex Russell. 

“The Hunger Games” - Official Movie Trailer (Starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson & Liam Hemsworth, Dir. by Gary Ross)

Set in a future where the Capitol selects a boy and girl from the twelve districts to fight to the death on live television, Katniss Everdeen volunteers to take her younger sister’s place for the latest match. 

From a bias perspective, it’s hard to explain the amount of excitement and joy that hits me having set my eyes on the first official movie trailer for the live-action adaptation of “The Hunger Games”. There is no way for me to sound any less like a fanboy of the entire Suzanne Collins helmed series of novels but of course, I’ll do my best. From the footage shown, it isn’t hard to understand that Lionsgate needs this film to be successful, having showcased both story and action elements in order to both excite fans and intrigue newcomers. The Gary Ross directed film seems cut to near perfection, with a trailer that manages to neither be boring nor ward off anybody who hasn’t read any of the books prior to that March 23rd release date.

“Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol” - Theatrical Movie/Film Trailer (Starring Tom Cruise, Dir. by Brad Bird)

Above us is the theatrical trailer for upcoming film “Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol” (M:I 4), helmed by first time live-action director Brad Bird and starring Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg, Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton and Ving Rhames. Set for release on December 21st, the newest of the Mission: Impossible series is shaping up to be the best of the bunch, including the always recommended ridiculous action scenes, not to mention Tom Cruise himself hanging from the tallest building in the world, that being the Burj Khalifa tower located in Dubai. 

If that isn’t enough to justify seeing the film, whether you’re a fan of the series or not, then you might as well check out the trailer above to Brad Bird’s “Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol”, because after all, it looks like a ton of fun.

First off, this is not your typical superhero film. For too long have we dealt with the cliches of Spider-Man, The Dark Knight and their many affiliated properties, but today, that changes. “Chronicle”, directed by Josh Trank is filmed in a way that is both original, and proven in the past to be a risky move. Utilizing the technology of Found Footage, a filming technique most easily portrayed in projects such as “The Blair Witch Project” and in most recent years, “Cloverfield”, the movie follows the life of three teenagers who after acquiring superpowers, find themselves spiraling out of control losing each other in the process. 

Starring Michael B. Jordan, an actor that I am quite fond of after his lead role in “Friday Night Lights”, Michael Kelly and Alex Russell, I can’t help but think that this film is going to be amazing and literally blow me away. The darker atmosphere is definitely an acquired taste, but is a concept that has the potential to make this project stand out amongst the rest. 

I’m not usually one to make assumptions, but from what I’ve seen so far, “Chronicle” looks like a must watch for 2012, and if you feel like straying away from the typical hero film, this is the perfect getaway. Get a taste of “Chronicle” and check out the trailer above, because it looks awesome. 

“Drive” VS “Star Wars: The Original Trilogy” - Starring Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford (Movie Mashup Trailer)

If there was anything to get me more excited about “Drive”, the well reviewed Nicholas Winfred Refn directed action/noir film set for release in mid-October, this latest mashup has pushed me over the limits with anticipation. 

Combining the audio from “Drive”, starring actor Ryan Gosling (Ides of March) and actress Carey Mulligan (Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps) as well as the visuals from the original “Star Wars” trilogy we have, as a result, one of the coolest and most imaginative looking film trailers ever, if only it actually were real.

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance - Official Movie Trailer (Starring Nicholas Cage, Directed by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor)

Leading up to the release of “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance”, the first sequel in the successful “Marvel” franchise during February next year, the first trailer has finally been released. Starring Nicholas Cage (National Treasure), and directed by the duo that brought you “Crank” it’s more than obvious that the film isn’t aiming for, nor is it going to get any MTV awards or Oscars anytime soon. 

Directed by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, I can’t help but remain optimistic for a film that’s willing to have a guy in flames peeing at the end of the trailer, yet still expect to be taken seriously. That takes a lot of guts, but from what I’ve seen so far guts could go a long way in making “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance”, a success.  

Red Tails - Official Movie Trailer (Starring Cuba Gooding Jr and Terrence Howard)

An event not seen since the 1990s, Lucasfilm is venturing into an unknown territory, releasing a movie that for once isn’t related to Indiana Jones nor Star Wars in any way. Directed by Anthony Hemingway, “Red Tails” revolves around the true story of the Tuskegee Airmen, a group of combat pilots who  fought in World War II. Starring Cuba Gooding Jr, Terrence Howard, Bryan Cranston and others, whilst the lineup is quite impressive I’m not sure what to think after seeing the trailer. The script seems at best lackluster with effects barely remedying that situation, I mean, SFX never really was the problem with Lucasfilm. 

With beautiful looking action scenes, I’m sure that “Red Tails” will be a blast, so here’s to hoping that the story is just as intriguing as it is at first glance. I’m always hesitant at first to hear about upcoming films,  but I remain positive that Lucasfilm Ltd will be able to pull through with an amazing film despite the disapointment that the Star Wars series has become. 

The Amazing Spider-Man Trailer Meets Mirror’s Edge (Comparison)

If you are a gamer(like me), the final 40 or so seconds of “The Amazing Spider-Man trailer” had to have stood out to you like a sore thumb. In case you don’t know what I mean, watch the video above comparing the likes of “Mirror’s Edge” and “The Amazing Spider-Man”. Whilst it is startling that a film would use material baring such close resemblance to a first-person video game, this is of course not a bad thing at all. It just means that Sony either has the mind of a gamer or short term memory loss.

The Amazing Spider-Man - Teaser Trailer (Starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, Directed by Marc Webb)

After news hit over a year ago that Sam Raimi, Tobey Maguire and well, the entire project that was Spider-Man 4 had been dumped for a reboot I was seriously heartbroken. I thought that Raimi and the entire original cast had done the franchise great justice throughout their trilogy despite the third film, and that a reboot was just plain dumb. Well here we are, over a year later and the first teaser trailer has finally been released for “The Amazing Spider-Man” directed by Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer) as well as starring Andrew Garfield (The Social Network) and Emma Stone (Zombieland). I’m not sure what I can say so early on about this film other than that Marc Webb is doing his honest best to distinguish himself from the past trilogy and that it doesn’t look all that bad.

There are definitely going to be some, myself included that could not bare another origin story (I mean, how many different ways can you get bitten) but I’m willing to give this new take on the web slinging hero’s life a fair go. Whilst I still think that the idea of a reboot was just ridiculous, I’m willing to hope that the talents of Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone can truly make a great film, even if I wasn’t totally excited at first.
